The project

Four colors of Venetian terrazzo were chosen by the international architectural studio Sybarite for the mall’s flooring, and namely SB100, SB102, SB103 and SB104, all part of the “Unico” line and ranging in color from white to dark gray. This combination of colors has been used to create sophisticated, geometrical patterns. Sybarite felt that the mall’s lobby and food court would be the perfect places for this marble cement, and this major order of Venetian terrazzo totaled more than 10,000 sq m (107,600 sq ft) of product, which was honed and finished entirely on site.
For this project, Agglotech was engaged both in providing the terrazzo and offering oversight and consulting services during its installation. Prior to the final provisioning, a mockup of the flooring was also created in Xi’an, so that the client could see the effect the Venetian flooring would have once installed.
It was both an important challenge and the start to a mutually beneficial collaboration between Agglotech and SKP, with the Italian terrazzo manufacturer also being engaged for subsequent shopping centers erected by the luxury retailer elsewhere in China.
SKP malls are famous for featuring some of the most prominent luxury brands, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Prada. The goal of the project was to create a shopping experience suited to the prominent brands featured at the mall, and Agglotech’s Venetian terrazzo has proven to be up to the task of meeting the client’s expectations in terms of the style and elegance sought for the center’s entrance area.
The flooring achieved with the help of the small and mid-sized chips in the marble-cement agglomerate is perfectly suited to the open, flexible architecture of the mall, which varies greatly based on the brand, givig the space a sense of depth and dynamism.
