Osnabrück University
Osnabrück, Germany
Agglotech’s SB149 Fumo Venetian terrazzo, from the company’s Microterrazzo line, was chosen for this particularly innovative project in Osnabrück, Germany, where the product was used for a portion of the flooring and as stair cladding for Osnabrück University’s new auditorium.

The project
Osnabrück University commissioned the new auditorium to the architectural firms CROSS Architecture and Benthem Crouwel GmbH. The building attracted a great deal of attention for the fact that part of the structure appears to levitate above the ground, with this “cut-out” corner of the building serves as the auditorium’s ample entrance. The selection of colors is also extremely original, a vibrant green both inside and out offering a pleasing contrast to the more somber hues of the materials used and of the building’s surroundings.
For this project, Agglotech provided the marble-cement agglomerate, color SB149 Fumo, for a portion of the flooring and for the stair cladding. This product was a particularly good choice because of the color consistency achieved by the very small marble chips in the marble aggregate set in a base of gray cement. The technical properties of this Venetian flooring also ensure the sort of wear resistance needed for such a vast, high-traffic surface area.
