London, United Kingdom
In the heart of London, the modern, technological store of the Italian brand United Colors of Benetton meets the style and elegance of Italian design in Agglotech’s marble-cement agglomerate. Engaged directly by the end client, Agglotech provided its products for a portion of the flooring and for the impressive spiral staircase.
Agglotech followed the project right from the start, working with the client and with the architects throughout the design and construction of the new store. Before providing the actual product, Agglotech developed a mockup in the company’s Verona office in order to identify any issues that may need to be resolved.
The client wanted the joints between the terrazzo tiles to be as invisible as possible, so Agglotech technicians arranged for the terrazzo to be polished on site after it was installed.
Another unique feature of the project was the store’s spiral staircase, which was created and assembled directly at Agglotech’s head office. The staircase includes a metallic structure, which was then clad in Venetian terrazzo, but, because the staircase is visible from multiple angles throughout the store, it needed to be clad on both sides. Therefore, the underside of the steps were also clad, using a special Fisher F2P anchoring system.
Finding just the right color for the project was no easy task and required close collaboration between the client and Agglotech’s technicians. Eventually, colors SB143 and SB178 were selected, as these two unique colors feature chips of the world-famous Carrara marble, which lends the marble-cement agglomerate elegant hues of vibrant white.
Because of its great versatility, durability and reliability, the Venetian flooring and terrazzo stairs proved to be the perfect solution for this project, giving the store both depth and a dynamic character.
