Construction of the AXA Superblock office building, overseen by freelance architect Adolf Krischanitz, featured the use of Agglotech’s marble cement, color SB174, in a range of applications, including interior and exterior flooring, interior wall cladding, cladding for the stairs, and even specially sculpted design features.
For the insurance company’s new offices in Winterthur, Switzerland, Agglotech’s Venetian terrazzo, color SB174 Moncervetto, was chosen by the building’s designers. The color selected features a delicate gray cement base enriched with marble chips of varying sizes and colors. For the outdoor terrazzo flooring in the building’s inner courtyard, this marble-cement agglomerate was given a “brushed” finish to exalt the veins in the marble and bring out its characteristic colors. Interior flooring was given a honed finish to ensure a good degree of slip resistance, making it well suited to public settings in which specific safety standards need to be met. The main properties that led the designers to select Venetian terrazzo were its great resistance to wear, which makes it ideal for high-traffic areas, and its versatility of style and design, which made it possible to create special design features such as the reception desk in the building’s lobby. The great versatility of the marble-cement aggregate used made it possible to clad both the stairs and the interior walls of the building, which feature a geometric pattern created by the building’s designers.
