Am Knie
Munich, Germany
The Am Knie building in Munich, Germany, is a prime example of the versatility of Agglotech terrazzo, as it can also be used as exterior cladding for entire buildings using the rear-ventilated rainscreen technique. For this project, this technique featured the anchoring system designed by Fisher, with which Agglotech has nurtured a longstanding collaboration.

The project
Using terrazzo for exterior cladding and the rear-ventilated rainscreen technique is an excellent solution for building insulation, keeping the interior cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. Agglotech terrazzo also ensures excellent performance and durability over time, given that it has no added resins or chemicals that can be compromised by weather and other external agents.
The color SB100, a bright white from the Agglotech “Unico” line, was selected for the terrazzo for the Am Knie project. This color features mid-sized chips of white Carrara marble extracted directly from the Carrara quarries. This terrazzo owes its unique sparkle to this Carrara marble aggregate, and the use of marble aggregate to create Venetian terrazzo is an important example of how this product is able to give new life to a material — the marble chips — that would otherwise be thrown away. A prime example of reuse and the circular economy.
