Laying Instructions

WARNING

All types of substrates on which AGGLOTECH products are laid must be properly cured, stable, free from removable parts, dust, oils, greases, waxes or paints. Before installation, the artifacts must be carefully checked and measurements, thicknesses, cleanliness, finishes, any damaged parts etc. must be checked. AGGLOTECH declines all responsibility in the event that defective pieces are placed.

Floors

A deformable glue is recommended for laying marble-concrete floors on screed (Agglotech recommends Granirapid Mapei or Agglofix® Agglotech). For floors with sizes starting from 60 x 60 cm, a highly deformable S2 glue is recommended (Elastorapid Mapei or Agglofix® Agglotech). It is recommended to lay with the “buttering floating” technique (double spreading) to increase the adhesion of the product. to the support. It is recommended to grout on the floor after 2-3 days using a specific elastic product for joints. For all information relating to the products used for laying (laying, stucco, etc.), it is necessary to refer to the technical data sheets of the manufacturers.

Stairs

For the installation of Steps, AGGLOTECH recommends using a highly deformable S2 glue (Elastorapid Mapei or Agglofix® Agglotech) using the “buttering floating” technique (double spreading) to increase the adhesion of the terrazzo product to the substrate. It should also be remembered that an expansion joint of min. 1 cm from any tension points (walls). For all information relating to the products used for laying (laying, stucco, etc.), it is necessary to refer to the technical data sheets of the manufacturers.

Skirtings

To be installed with the same glue used for the floors. Fill with elastic product.

IMPORTANTE

After installation it is absolutely necessary to protect the material in agglomerated marble and concrete properly! AGGLOTECH declines all responsibility for material damaged after installation.

AGGLOFIX Adhesive

Highly deformable cementitious adhesive for professional laying of cement-based agglomerates

Preparation of substrates

The substrates must be mechanically resistant, free from friable or not well anchored parts and free from grease, dust, oils, traces of gypsum, paints and release agents. The substrates must be mature and have already exhausted the hygrometric shrinkage, be stable, without cracks and not deformable and must not be subject to shrinkage or structural movements after installation. Unless they are made with special “quick binders for screeds” (in this case follow the manufacturer’s instructions), the substrates must be cured for at least one week for each centimeter of thickness and, in any case, at least 28 days. Any unevenness of flatness greater than 1 cm must be regularized with suitable self-leveling or smoothing products. Cementitious surfaces exposed to sunlight must be cooled by moistening them in advance with clean water (eliminate any residual stagnant water), while the anhydrite screeds must be perfectly dry, mature, free of dust and previously treated with a suitable synthetic primer.

Preparation of the mixture

Mix with drinking water in the ratio of 22.5 ÷ 24.5% equal to 4,5 ÷ 4,9 liters of water per 20 kg of product. Slowly add the powder to the liquid. Mix with a low-speed drill fitted with a mixing propeller until a homogeneous, lump-free mortar is obtained. Leave the resulting mixture to rest for 5 minutes and mix again briefly. The adhesive thus prepared has a usage time of about 1 hour *.

Application

Using the smooth part of the trowel, spread a thin layer of adhesive mortar evenly on the substrate, then work the product with the notched side of the trowel. Do not wet the slabs before laying; only if the bottom is very dusty is it necessary to wash them by “dipping” them in clean water (to avoid the presence of residual water on the back). The slabs are normally laid by exerting a good pressure to ensure contact with the adhesive. The open time of AGGLOFIX S2, under normal environmental conditions, is more than 30 minutes, however this data is subject to variations based on climatic conditions and the absorbency of the substrate. It is therefore necessary to check often that the glue has not formed a surface film and is still fresh and sticky, otherwise it is necessary to intervene with the notched trowel, reshuffling it again. In the case of external floors and walls or applications carried out on windy days, or in the case of particularly difficult applications or laying of large formats, or whenever the applicator deems it appropriate in order to ensure better adhesion, the AGGLOFIX adhesive S2 must also be spread on the back of the slab (“double spreading” technique).

Coverage

When selecting the spreader to be used, the general principle to follow is that of selecting a spreader that will allow total (100%) wetting of the back of the tile. When laying small tiles on even substrates, it is re- commended that you use an 8 mm spreader (coverage approx. 4 ÷ 4.5 kg/m2). On uneven substrates it is recommended that you use a 10 mm spreader (coverage 5 ÷ 6 kg/m2). For large sizes and when using the double spreading method, use a round toothed spreader and create layers of adhesive up to 10 mm thick; in this case the coverage is approximately 6 ÷ 8 kg/m2.

Grouting

The joints between tiles can be grouted after 8 ÷ 12 hours when applied to the wall and after 36 ÷ 48 hours on floors (according to the thickness involved) using specific cement-based or, if necessary, epoxy sealants, available in various colours.

Cleaning

Wash your hands and the tools used with plenty of clean water before the mixture starts to set. Cleaning after it has set is very difficult, and may require the use of mechanical systems.

Installation of the Terrazzo

For laying on cementitious substrates Agglotech® recommends a quick-setting and moisturizing adhesive (Granirapid Mapei). The use of the “buttering floating” technique (double spreading) improves the adhesion between product and support.
