LET’S PLAY TERRAZZO
FUORISALONE 2025
Venetian artisans to floorings that evoke memories of Italian grandmothers’ homes, to its rebirth in Art Deco and Mid-Century-inspired designs, reinterpreted today by the greatest designers. From a finish that was culturally perceived as less prestigious, born from the reuse of marble fragments, Terrazzo has undergone a real transformation, going from a humble material to the protagonist of luxury. Its versatility, endless creative possibilities, ability to ensure uniformity over large surfaces and the distinctive touch that any designer can give it have made it a choice of excellence in contemporary projects.
LET’S PLAY TERRAZZO by Agglotech is a provocative installation. An invitation to play with Terrazzo, both formally and philosophically, expanding its perspective. A creative game on two levels: the first is the mixing of agglomerates, the second is the search for new forms. Following the theme of FuoriSalone 2025, “Connected Worlds,” the installation is conceived as a tent, a symbol of freedom of movement and adaptability to contexts. A perfect metaphor for the Terrazzo, free in its infinite combinations and able to harmoniously dialogue with other finishes. The exhibition takes place in the dehors of a historic Italian café in Corso Monforte 4, in the beating heart of Milan’s Fuorisalone, transforming a discreet space into a meeting point for ideas, creativity and connections.
The tent interiors cleverly combine elements that evoke different themes related to the essence of Terrazzo. Green curtains cover the walls with a Terrazzo effect finish, creating a link between the fluidity of the fabric-static and dynamic at the same time-and the versatility of the material. Terrazzo is not just a wall covering from the past, but a three-dimensional material capable of transforming into new forms. The centerpiece of the space is a Terrazzo billiard table with matching marbles, the result of research into the material’s expressive potential and its ability to surprise. The game here becomes an act of hospitality and interaction, a tool for connecting people through a shared experience. The exhibition is transformed into a real social lounge, where architects and designers can engage with Agglotech to discover new ways of interpreting Terrazzo.
A dialogue of ideas unfolds around round Terrazzo tables and Thonet stools, evoking the atmosphere of historic Italian billiard rooms and cafeterias, recalling memories of play and conviviality. The checkerboard floor in Terrazzo celebrates visual harmony through contrast, emphasizing how connection between individuals does not necessarily imply homogeneity: even opposing visions can coexist in balance. Just as the Terrazzo is not just made of uniform colors, but can be a game of contrasts, the checkerboard motif evokes an animated chessboard, where visitors themselves become the protagonists of their own “moves.” Leading this vision is Michael Vincent UY, founder of MVUY and new Creative Director of Agglotech, who debuts with an invitation to rediscover the concept of play and reflect on the essence of Terrazzo. An exhortation to experiment, explore and blur the boundaries of creativity.
Creativity is expressed not only in design, but also in technique, technology and,
sometimes, the ability to play with ideas, freeing ourselves from predefined patterns and
expanding the narrative possibilities of a material.
